Tuesday opened with rain showers – not the best conditions for beach-going; so, what to do? Rent scooters! Caroline and I rented scooters, while Chris found a more powerful motorcycle to rent. See the pictures.
We rode down the east coast of the island, stopping at a viewpoint, a small monkey training place, a wat, a waterfall where they also had elephant trekking and other jungle safari activities, and finally the Big Buddha. The weather was damp at times, but it never seriously rained while we were riding. The scooters allowed us to go much farther and see more than we could have on our bikes. The roads are narrower here, and not all stretches have shoulders to cycle on. In places the traffic gets really congested, but the open sections of the road were quite fun. This activity was a first for me.
