Sunday

We had planned to leave Bangkok on the first train south to Chumphon and beyond. We awoke, packed, and were on the road before 7am. Early Sunday morning in Bangkok is the best time for seeing the city by bike. We met with few other people of the roads that early. Unfortunately, we learned that the only train with space to take the bikes didn’t leave until 2:45pm. We had over six hours to kill. After getting breakfast, we decided to go to nearby Lumpini park, which is home to this fellow and his friends.

We played cards and read our books for a couple hours.

Even without much traffic, negotiating the streets is a challenge. We managed to get to the Sheraton . At this point, the lack of sleep hit me. I started getting shaky and not remembering things.

After a short rest, we boarded the train for the 7-8 hour ride. We play games and I kept falling asleep. We arrived at our destination (Chumphon) after 10pm. Caroline found a guesthouse and then we went to dinner – took another malaria pill, had another virtually sleepless night.
